Personal Philosophy:
My approach can be characterized as eclectic. I do not believe that there is one method or technique for all problems. I draw upon a variety of methods to help you move forward in your life - the methods I will choose depend on the nature of the problem, where you are in the change process and your level of comfort with a particular method. While I have knowledge, skills and tools to help you make sense of troubles and resolve them, I do not see conselling as something I do to you. Rather, I view counselling as a process and a relationship - one where I see myself working alongside you - helping you make the changes in your life. I view health in a holistic manner and will pay attention not only to the issues you present but also to your overall health and lifestyle. In particular, I pay attention to the relationship between what you care most deeply about (your core values and beliefs) and the actual way you are living your life. I tend to view symptoms such as depression, anxiety and stress as signifying deeper hurts, and I will work alongside you to identify these hurts. Together we will work through them. I have found that small changes can make a great deal of difference in our lives. I will encourage you to move away from an over- focus on the problem, towards dreaming and thinking about how to get what you want. Sometimes you may know what you want but do not have the tools to make it happen. I have many years of experience, and have developed up a number of tools and strategies, which have proven to be helpful. I will gladly share these with you.
