Philosophy:
The lives we lead are informed by the cultural, societal, family and personal stories within which we have important roles. Often, we are simultaneously pushed and pulled in different directions by the many contexts which give meaning to our lives. We may be faced with seemingly incompatible demands or injunctions which we struggle to meet or to follow: work hard, be beautiful, never let your guard down, love conquers all, fighting is failure.
Perhaps you are "stuck" in a repeating pattern of conflict and disagreement with your partner -- you can predict the steps of this "dance" with perfect accuracy. Perhaps you are under the powerful influence of some kind of diagnosis -- feeling sentenced for life (it seems) to a condition for which medication seems to be the only treatment. Maybe you are beginning to wonder whether you took a wrong turn on the road of life. To create a fulfilling and satisfying life sometimes seems an
impossible dream.
When you "look around" to see how you got to this place in your life, the many influences which have shaped you are likely to have faded out and you can't quite grasp how to get your life back on track. What needs to happen is a re-discovering of the important themes in your life, the values that shape the details of your actions, thoughts and feelings. Once you have a clearer grasp of what is profoundly meaningful to you, the opportunity comes to write a new story to describe your life in the future in terms that are more respectful and nourishing of self and of others.
